Botox in Winston-Salem

Facial wrinkles and fine lines can be difficult to deal with, but BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® can help! These simple, injectable treatments can temporarily soften wrinkles and fine lines near the brows, eyes, mouth, and forehead without the need for extended discomfort or downtime.

What are Neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators are some of the most widely used injectable treatments available today. These products are used to address one of the most common causes of wrinkles and fine lines — muscle contractions. Over the course of a person’s lifetime, they make countless facial expressions when they speak, eat, laugh, smile, or frown. These facial expressions cause muscle contractions, which in turn causes the skin above the muscles to move. Over time, these movements lead to the formation of wrinkles and fine lines, especially in areas like the brows, forehead, mouth, and eyes.

Both BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®, the two neuromodulators offered at Innovative Aesthetics M.D., are formulated using a substance called botulinum toxin. Once this substance is injected into the muscles during a neuromodulator treatment session, the muscles are temporarily relaxed. This allows the skin above them to smooth and soften. Because the relaxation that botulinum toxin provides wrinkles is only temporary, patients must undergo repeated injections to maintain their results.

BOTOX® COSMETIC

  • Frown lines

Each BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment takes about 10 minutes to complete and brings patients wrinkle correction that can last for up to three or four months. Following this period of time, patients will need to undergo follow-up injections to maintain their results.

Tone and Tighten Your Face with a Non-Surgical Eyebrow Lift

If friends are always asking you if you’re tired when you’re feeling fine, it may be due to sagging eyebrows or droopy eyelids. There’s a simple, non-invasive way to correct these facial features. Innovative Aesthetics MD in Winston-Salem offers eyebrow lifts using Botox and PDO threads. Whether your droopy brows are to aging or genetics, these nonsurgical aesthetic treatments are safe and effective for giving the muscles above your brows – and the upper half of your face – a lift without surgery.

What is an Eyebrow Lift?

For many years, a surgical procedure called a forehead lift or brow lift had been the only way for many patients to smooth out wrinkles and lift droopy eyebrows. Now there’s a non-invasive option for correcting droopy eyebrows.

A brow lift treatment works well on all skin types. The treatment lifts skin around and above the eyebrows, moving the natural arch slightly higher. The muscles above the brows are temporarily frozen in place.

The eyebrows remain in a lifted position until the solution wears out, in anywhere from six to eight months. Maintenance treatments are required to keep the muscles above the eyebrows “frozen” for a lifted appearance.

Outpatient Treatments for Eyebrow Lifts

A non-surgical eyebrow lift can create a raised horizontal brow, a raised arched brow or the tail of the brow can be raised. You’ll need to discuss your goals with our medical professional during consultation.

In small doses, botulinum  are also used to weaken the contractions of the muscles on and around the forehead to smooth existing lines and prevent new lines from forming. This helps to give your face and brows a cleaner, more youthful look.

Some patients may benefit from combining a brow lift treatment before or after a chemical peel, laser resurfacing treatment, IPL photofacial treatment, or a PDO threadlift.

Are You a Good Candidate for an Eyebrow Lift?

You may be a good candidate if you have droopy eyelids or low-hanging brows. Sagging eyebrows may give you a tired or grumpy appearance. The procedure is recommend for individuals with mild brow drooping, or patients who want more balanced facial features.

You may also want to consider an eyebrow lift if you have horizontal lines across your forehead, furrows or frown lines between your brows, or excess skin hanging over your eyes.

A brow lift shapes the eyebrows and “opens up” the face to give you a younger appearance.

Precautions and Side Effects

Common side effects of non-surgical brow lift injections include:

  • Headache

  • Eyelid swelling or bruising

  • Pain or swelling at site of injection

  • Muscle weakness near injection site

  • Spotty areas of temporary increased skin sensitivity

These side effects usually pass within a few days of your treatment.

Don’t take the following medicines or supplements a week before treatment, as they can cause increased risk of bruising.

  • Aspirin

  • Fish oil

  • Vitamin E

  • Aleve

  • Advil

  • Ginseng

Avoid drinking alcohol for about a week before your treatment.

What Happens During a Non-Invasive Eyebrow Lift?

The treatment is conducted by Dr. Lindsay to ensure proper placement of the eyebrow. When the procedure is conducted by an inexperienced provider or by someone only doing these treatments as a botox side gig, the patient may find his or her brows uneven, or have a perpetually surprised look.

The treatment is virtually painless. Overall, treatment only takes between 10 and 15 minutes.

You’ll notice an improvement in two to three days, with most patients seeing full results in seven to 10 days. The muscles above the eye area, now weakened by the injectable solution, smooth away grooves and frown lines. The relaxed muscles at the top of the eyebrows give the forehead and eyebrow area a more youthful, toned appearance.

After-treatment Care

Try not to lay down for 4 hours after the procedure.

For 24 hours after treatment:

  • Avoid intense exercise or any strenuous activity.

  • Don’t touch or rub the injection area.

  • Avoid drinking large amounts of alcohol.

  • Don’t get a chemical peel, facial or microdermabrasion.

Follow-Up Treatments

When you visit the office on your follow-up appointment about two weeks after treatment, we will assess the results. If you need touch-ups, they can be performed at this time.

When you visit our offices for maintenance treatment, you’ll notice that you’ll see results faster with each succeeding visit. It’s important to schedule maintenance appointments as soon as you notice a change in your brows’ appearance. Your brows will start drooping again if you discontinue maintenance treatments.

Dysport Near Me

Dysport is abobotulinum toxin, another brand of Botox that we offer right here in Clemmons.

Many people find that this particular brand kicks in a day or two faster and lasts a week or two longer than the average Botox duration.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?

Botox was the original brand of cosmetic botulinum toxin and is the most widely-known and recognized. We know that it is effective in limiting muscle fiber contraction and smoothing out wrinkles of the forehead, frown lines, and crows feet.

Dysport, the second neurotoxin to be released, performs the same effects but is known for a slightly more rapid onset and smoother feathered effect on the area injected.

The choice between Botox and Dysport is simply personal preference. The two medications are not measured in equivalent units therefore pricing can be confusing. Dysport is 2.6 times the unit dose equivalent of Botox. To make things simpler and to reduce error in dosing, we refer to both brands using "botox unit equivalents" both in dosing, your treatment map, and our pricing.

During your consultation at our med spa in Winston-Salem, the physician will recommend one or the other, based on less common injection challenges (perhaps you did not respond as well or your dose requirement is increasing).

2. What is the difference between Botox and Xeomin?

Botox and Xeomin are both brand names of the wrinkle reducing compound, botulinum toxin. Xeomin has been engineered to only include the minimum amount of proteins necessary for clinical use, leading to a more purified product which potentially protects you from developing immunity to the tox over time. Xeomin can require more units to be equivalent to the clinical effect of Botox or Dysport, but not always.

3. How long does Botox last?

Botox begins to work at 2-3 days and can take up to 2 weeks to fully kick in for maximum clinical effect. Botox typically last s for 3-4 months with effects wearing off gradually during that time. For some people results can last longer as the muscles become used to working less.

4. Does Botox work right away?

No. Botox does not begin to show clinical effect for 2 to 3 days, as it is gradually binding to the motor endplate receptors.

5. What is the difference between Dysport and Botox?

Dysport is abobotulinum toxin and works in the same way as Botox. Compared to Botox which contains 0.18ng of botulinum toxin per 10 unit dose equivalent, Dysport contains 0.24 ng of active botulinum toxin. This results in a slightly quicker onset of action in many patients. Duration is about the same, three to four months.
